VANCOUVER – Five India tech startups, all winners of Zone Startups India’s Next Big Idea contest, visited Simon Fraser University’s VentureLabs at Harbour Centre December 7-8 after collecting on their prize—a two-week mentorship and business development opportunity just held at Ryerson University’s Digital Media Zone (DMZ).

The five were chosen for the opportunity to leverage their startups in Canada as part of the third annual contest, hosted by the Canadian and Ontario governments, Zone Startups India, the Bombay Stock Exchange Institute (BSEI) and Amazon Web Services.

Zone Startups India, the first Canadian-led international incubator/accelerator in India, is a collaboration between SFU, Ryerson University, Ryerson Futures Inc. and the BSEI.

Their brief visit to Vancouver and SFU’s new VentureLabs facility will complete their circuit of networking and making connections to help grow their businesses internationally. They’ll meet with members of the local business community and potential investors, customers, partners and mentors.

The winners, chosen from more than 300 candidates, were announced in July and include:

• Bangalore based Lightmetrics Technologies, whose smartphone based drive monitoring solution gives a 360-degree view of driving behavior by providing visual context to driving data;

• Packal, also based in Bangalore, is building the world’s most comprehensive reproductive health tracker, which they call Lovecycles (and has six million downloads worldwide);

• Delhi based Neuron, which uses data analytics as a service platform and is helping organizations make of and extract meaningful insights from their data;

• Swift File Transfer (SFT) also in Delhi, an award winning app that sends photos, folders, videos, apps or any other types of files across Android devices wirelessly, without the need for USB cables or pen-drives. SFT is on the list of Hot 100 Technologies by the Centre of Recognition & Excellence, sponsored by KPMG, Microsoft and Amazon.

Survelytics, based in the city of Thane, is an industry leader in enterprise mobile data collection and analytics. In India, they are considered leaders among market research companies and are aggressively making a push in both the North American market and other regions globally.

“It’s a chance to point out that our our brand, our values as a city and as a country, is almost the diametric opposite to what Mr. Trump is saying.”

While Vancouver and Toronto consider removing Trump’s name from buildings in their cities, a billion dollar project in Dubai has already deleted Trump’s name.
