EDMONTON – Edmonton police said Thursday that a suspicious death of South Asian man in the city’s northeast earlier this week is the city’s most recent homicide, and charges have been laid.

Police have identified the deceased as Pragalthan Narainsamy Naidoo, 73.

On Tuesday, just before 7 p.m., police were called to an apartment building located in the area of 145 Avenue and 77 Street.

When officers arrived, they found a male deceased on the scene – and a woman was taken into custody following the incident.

Police said Celina Jennifer Kelly, 51, has been charged with second degree murder and possession of a weapon for the purpose of committing an offense.

An autopsy in this case was conducted Wednesday, but police said the cause of death would not be released.

Kelly is scheduled to appear in court January 5. This is Edmonton’s 30th homicide of 2015.
