VANCOUVER – A South Asian man accused in a hit-and-run crash that killed a 25-year-old woman on her way home from work earlier this year has pleaded guilty.

Ibrahim Ali was charged with dangerous driving causing death and failure to stop at an accident in connection with the March 9 collision in Burnaby.

On Thursday, Ali pleaded guilty to both counts.

The victim, Emily Sheane, was driving back from her job at Joe Fortes restaurant in Vancouver when a Range Rover sped through a red light and struck her vehicle. Authorities said she died on impact.

The driver of the Range Rover and a passenger fled the scene, but two suspects were arrested days later in the Interior community of Creston, more than 700 kilometres from the crash scene.

A sentencing hearing for Ali has been set for Nov. 24.
