Four Of Family Spray Acid On Sarpanch’s Wife, Others Water guns used in attack over land dispute at Kapurthala village.

JALANDHAR – Four members of a family allegedly threw acid on a group of people, leaving six women injured at Shekhupur Bahui village in Kapurthala. Among the injured is the wife of the village sarpanch Vinod Kumar. Her condition is said to be critical.

Rajinder Singh, SSP, said the accused were having a land dispute with the sarpanch. In her statement to the police, Rajwinder Kaur, one of the accused, had claimed that the sarpanch wanted to construct a community hall on land belonging to her. Despite her repeated requests, he did not abandon the project, she alleged.

Eyewitnesses said preparations were on to lay the foundation stone in the morning. Sarpanch’s Reena Sehgal was present at the site. Rajwinder Kaur along with her husband Nirmal Singh, mother-in-law Rattan Kaur and daughter Luvpreet Kaur arrived at the site with water guns filled with acid.

The scene turned ugly when Rajwinder Kaur along with her family members started spraying acid on the women standing in the front.

Besides Reena, the injured are Jasbir Kaur, Tara Rani, Jagir Kaur, Rajwant Kaur and Jasvir Kaur. Accused Rajwinder Kaur and her daughter too sustained minor injuries.

The injured were shifted to the Kapurthala Civil Hospital. According to hospital sources, the women sustained around 25 per cent burns. Reena was referred to the Jalandhar Civil Hospital.

The police have registered a case against four persons under Sections 307 and 126 A of the IPC. Local MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh and other Congress leaders visited the hospital in the evening and met the victims.
