SURREY – Rogers announced this week that the City of Surrey has been added as a stop on the fourth season of Rogers Hometown Hockey, its cross-Canada road trip. The tour will stop in Surrey on December 9 and 10, offering a weekend of free outdoor hockey festivities for all ages.

In addition to providing an opportunity for the communities of Surrey to come together and show their passion for the game, the two-day event will offer a chance to recognize local up and coming talent and meet NHL alumni.

Fans can also watch an all-Canadian match-up between the Edmonton Oilers and Toronto Maple Leafs on Sportsnet at the Rogers Hometown Hockey outdoor viewing party on Sunday, December 10. The show will be broadcast live from the Sportsnet Mobile Studio and hosted by iconic Canadian sportscaster Ron MacLean and co-host Tara Slone

“There is an undeniable passion for the game of hockey and the value of sport in Surrey and we are excited to showcase it on Rogers Hometown Hockey,” said Mayor Linda Hepner. “It’s an opportunity for Canadians from coast to coast to see Surrey’s rich hockey heritage and our very own hometown heroes.”

“We look forward to welcoming Rogers Hometown Hockey to Surrey,” said Councillor Bruce Hayne, chair of Surrey’s Parks, Recreation and Sport Tourism Committee. “Surrey has a strong hockey legacy and this is a wonderful opportunity for us to shine a light on the importance of nurturing the development of young athletes both locally and across the country.”

“This tour is about discovering all the ways that hockey is woven into the fabric of our nation, and these opening communities will set the stage for a phenomenal season of doing just that,” said Ron MacLean. “Every Sunday, we pull out the hockey roadmap and discover a part of Canada and ourselves.”

Event locations in Surrey will be announced at a later date. For updates and more information on Rogers Hometown Hockey in Surrey, follow Rogers Hometown Hockey on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
