PATIALA – The Malwa Research Center Patiala organized a discussion on the topic of immigration at the Bhasha Bhavan, Patiala recently with many scholars from all over Punjab and from abroad participated in the discussion.

Dr. Sawraj Singh, a well-known scholar and Global Thinker, presided over the function. Gurbachan Singh, Editor of Desh Punjab, was the main speaker. Tejwant Singh Maan, President of Kendri Likhari Sabha Sekhon, was the main commentator. Bhupinder Singh Malhi from Canada, B.S. Rattan, Amarjit Singh Varaich, Prof. Bawa Singh, Harkesh Singh Sidhu, Principal S.S. Dhillon Garhdiwala, and Harinder Singh Chahal participated in the discussion.

Dr. Tejwant Maan said that immigration is a curse for Punjab. People are being lured by the glamour of the Capitalist countries. The consensus was that immigration is harming Punjab and Punjabis. However, Harkesh Singh Sidhu thought that it was helping Punjab.

Concluding the discussion, Dr. Sawraj Singh said that immigration started from the tragedy of British occupation and enslavement of Punjab, and it is going to end in a tragedy. He said that Punjab is the most fertile land in the world, and people have been migrating to Punjab from all over the world for thousands of years.  Migration out of Punjab started 50 years after the British occupation and subjugation of Punjab.

Dr. Sawraj Singh said that Punjabis are migrating to the West when it is in a state of decline and crisis, while the East is rising. This historical blunder is going to prove very harmful for Punjab and Punjabis in the long run.
