VANCOUVER – A previously announced plan by the BC NDP government to eliminate prescription drug deductibles for low-income families in BC has now gone into effect.
As of January 1st, families earning less than $30,000 no longer have to pay any deductibles for medication. Families making between $30,000 and $45,000 now pay less for their prescriptions.
Co-payments have also been eliminated for seniors aged 78 and older with incomes of up to $14,000 and for those earning less than $13,750.
B.C. Health Minister Adrian Dix calls this a “long overdue step,” calling these changes “among the most progressive policy changes made to a provincial public drug plan in recent times.”
