Dear Editor,

Premier John Horgan and his Health Minister Adrian Dix gave a big surprise to Richmond on Thursday, July2.  The Premier announced that a “new larger and more ambitious than previously announced care tower for Richmond Hospital” had been approved by his government. This is great news not only for the residents of Richmond but also for the surrounding communities. Richmond Hospital was built in 1966 when this community was still a farming and bedroom community of around 150,000 residents. Since then, Richmond has undergone tremendous growth. Its current population of 220,000plus is growing by leaps and bounds. Moreover, Richmond Hospital also serves YVR and the BC Ferries. The old facility is becoming outdated fast. In this context, the announcement by Premier Horgan and Health Minister Adrian Dix that a new and enhanced/expanded acute care tower at Richmond Hospital will become a reality by 2024 is very appropriate and timely. As a Richmond resident for more than 30 years, I would like to express my sincere thanks and appreciation to the Horgan government for this much needed and timely commitment.
