AMRITSAR – In a major crackdown at the Indo-Pak-border in Punjab, Border police seized 27 kilograms of heroin valued at Rs 135 crore in international market, Rs 1.98 lakh fake Indian currency notes, one Chinese-made pistol and 20 cartridges on the intervening night of October 5 and 6 from two different places on Indo-Pak international border in Punjab. BSF also had encounter with Pakistan based smugglers. But in both the cases they (Pak smugglers) managed to run away to Pak territory. This is believed to be the biggest seizure of narcotics by BSF in more than one decade.
Additional BSF Director General Himmat Singh informed that a patrolling party spotted some suspicious movement in the paddy fields situated across the border fence near Rajatal. He said, “Jawan’s spotted some objects being thrown from across the border fence and they rushed to the spot and challenged the smugglers who fired at them”. He said his men also retaliated in defence and fired 10 round but they managed to escape.
Himmat Singh said that BSF had asked for a flag meeting with the Pakistan Rangers to lodge a protest. In the recent past, BSF had recovered 15 kilogram of heroine from the same outpost. He said he had given cash reward of Rs 15000 to two BSF constables and have also recommended commendation certificates for them. “We are investigating about the persons who were to retrieve the heroin on Indian side” said added.
