MUKTSAR – The maiden political conference of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) at the Maghi Mela attracted a huge crowd. Its leaders focused on the drug issue and gave the slogan of “Nasha mukt, Badal mukt Punjab”.

All four party MPs and state convener Sucha Singh Chhotepur addressed the rally. Bhagwant Mann, Sangrur MP, stole the show with his witty remarks against the Badals and BJP leaders. He was repeatedly cheered by the audience.

Mann targeted Majithia for his alleged links with drug lord Bhola. “Nashe vikan jihna de border te, ohi den dharne border te! (It is ironic that those who sell drugs in border areas are lodging protests at the international border),” he said. He claimed that in Moga villages, smack worth Rs 15 lakh was sold everyday. The AAP leaders spoke in favour of abolishing contractual employment. Targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, they said despite tall claims, the Central Government had failed to bring back black money in foreign banks. Sadhu Singh, Faridkot MP, expressed concern over the security of women.

The AAP leaders announced that the party would contest the forthcoming municipal elections in the state. Chhotepur said: “Our aim is to win more than 50 seats in the Delhi Assembly elections. The Congress has already accepted defeat. The BJP too will not be able to form government in Delhi.”

Party leader HS Phoolka could not make it to the conference. The party put up a stall to enrol more members. Singer Jasraj Jassi and party spokesperson Kultar Singh also attended the conference.
