Well known veterinarian and Human Rights champion Dr. Hakam Bhullar hosted event for Shiromani Akali Dal stalwart Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, the current Rajya Sabha member In the national Indian parliament, at Bhullar’s home in west side of Vancouver. The Badal-Akalis have been thrown out in recent Punjab elections but Dhindsa commands a lot of respect due to his years of political service and his calm demeanour.
His son Parminder Dhindsa was also a Finance Minister in the Akali government. Asked what the Akalis are doing to get back into power and Dhindsa quickly responds: “It’s too early yet.” But he reassures that Akalis are organized and will work to restore confidence of voters. It’s easier said than done but if AAP doesn’t get its act together then Akalis will be back in power after the next election as Punjab has few choices when it comes to Rulers.
