VANCOUVER  – It could soon be a bit easier to serve booze at your wedding, fundraiser or other private event, with liquor licensing going online in BC.

The pilot launches February 2nd. Anyone living in Burnaby and Vancouver will be able to test it out, avoiding city hall or a police station.

“I want to encourage those applying for a special occasion licence in Vancouver or Burnaby to help us test the online pilot when it goes live… and save paper, time and resources in doing so,” says Attorney General Suzanne Anton.

She says the province will be working out any bugs and should have it operational for everyone in BC by April.

The government processes about 25,000 liquor licences a year. The application process can be gruelling, but with this new system, approvals could happen immediately.
