Saragarhi Commemorations!

The highest gallantry battle day honour of the epic battle of Saragarhi is being celebrated at 6:30 pm on September 12 at the Riverside Signature Hall in Surrey. All the Servicemen of Indian Armed Forces are requested to attend the occasion with their wives. Please RSVP by September 9 by calling Captain Mohinder Singh at 604-501-3939.

Public Forum On Islamaphobia And White Supremacy

To mark the 16th anniversary of the events of 9-11, The Al-Jamia Mosque will host a public forum on Islamophobia and White Supremacy at 5 pm followed by a Vigil at 7 pm on Sunday September 10th. A panel will talk about strategies on how to work with different communities and agencies to organize a response to the promotion of hate in Vancouver putting diverse communities at risk. A vigil will be held outside the mosque at 7 pm where community and political leaders will speak to how we can work together to challenge White Supremacists organizing in our communities. The Al-Jamia Mosque located at 655 West 8th Ave. It the oldest mosque in British Columbia.

Run For The Cure

The CIBC and Canadian Cancer Society’s annual Run for the Cure will be held on Sunday, Oct. 1 from 8am to Noon at Bear Creek Park in Surrey. Registration is at 8am but it is free for those who fundraise. 10 Members or more receive T-shirts with their team’s name on the back. The Deadline for registration is September 14. PICS Society is providing an employment program called Workplace Integration for Mature Individuals (WIMI 45+), offering classes in the following:

  • Strengthen job search experience
  • Mentorship in pairing with local professional of your original profession
  • Job placement assistance and follow up support
  • Develop Work Action Plan and employer engagement

 

This program partners with local community and business employers who provide one to one follow up support, up to date employment trends, and follow up assistance for up to 9 months.
