CBI Achieved Over 68% Conviction Rate In 2013

NEW DELHI – The CentralBureau of Investigation (CBI)concluded trials in 1,225 caseswith a conviction rate of over68 per cent while it registered1,131 cases and disposed of1,070 in 2013, the agency saidTuesday.Giving a snapshot of its work in2013, the CBI, in a statement,listed key cases in which chargesheets were filed and cases registered.Some of the cases in which theagency filed charge sheets werethe disproportionate assets caseagainst a former chief ministerof Jharkhand, illegal excavationof iron ore against a formerKarnataka minister, the killingsof Sohrabuddin Sheikh andIshrat Jahan in alleged fakeencounters, etc.The CBI also listed some of theprominent cases it registered,including the alleged irregularitiesin the allocation of coalblocks, procurement of VIPchoppers from a Britain-basedfirm, etc.
