Bellingham, WA – Besides being thefavorite US shopping destination forBritish Columbians there are a few thingsthat Canadians should know about thecity of eighty-one thousand. The largestcity in Whatcom County is also the twelvelargest in the state of Washington andfifth largest for metropolitan area justbehind Seattle-Tacoma. There is noshortage of recreational opportunitiesfrom camping, biking, lots of golf and abeautiful shoreline.Perhaps the big attraction for re-locationfor the Punjabi community to the area hasbeen the close proximity to the Canadianborder and great farmland. There aremany farming families and they have easyaccess to their relatives in BC. Over thepast few years this community has grownand continues to grow. One of the signsof that growth is the newGurdwara under constructionon Smith Street. The five acreparcel of land with an old housewas purchased a few years agoand served as a mini prayer site.Soon a second building was constructedto serve the needs ofthe growing community. Eventhat became insufficient. Therefore, plans were made to construct abrand new building that will not onlyserve the needs in the present but alsoplans for the future and allows for extensionwhen required. The outside construction is nearly completebut all the inside work is still inprogress on the over 9000 SF building. There are no elections or politics and peoplefrom the community volunteer to takecare of their place of worship. Many volunteers have put in their time toraise money and also perform their tradein the construction but still more fundingand volunteers are required.Gurdwara Gur Nanak Parkash is located at777 W. Smith Rd in Bellingham (close to exit262 and 10 mins. before Bellis Fair Mall). Forvolunteering
