Rohinie Bisesar, who is accused of stabbing a woman to death inside a downtown Toronto Shoppers Drug Mart last December, is now facing a first-degree murder charge, police said Wednesday.
TORONTO – The charge against the Indo-Canadian woman, who is accused of stabbing another Indo-Canadian woman to death inside a downtown Toronto Shoppers Drug Mart last December, has been upgraded to first-degree murder.
Rohinie Bisesar, 40, appeared in court via video link on Wednesday afternoon to hear the charge. Previously, she had been charged with second-degree murder in the death of 28-year-old Rosemarie Junor.
Staff Insp. Greg McLane told CBC News that police “have uncovered more evidence” that leads them to believe a first-degree murder charge is warranted.
The change suggests there was premeditation and planning in the attack, McLane said.
Bisesar allegedly stabbed Junor shortly before 3 p.m. on Dec. 11, 2015, while the victim was at a Shoppers Drug Mart in Toronto’s PATH system.
Bisesar is to return to court on Feb. 29.
