CHANDIGARH – Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday dared Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh to take him to court if allegations of his family’s Swiss bank accounts are not true.

Addressing rallies in favour of party candidates in the district, he said: “I have revealed the Swiss bank account numbers of Amarinder’s wife Preneet Kaur and son Raninder Singh so many times in public rallies. But to date, Amarinder has not contradicted even once that I was telling a lie. I challenge him to file a court case against me if I am telling lies.

“Amarinder ke pass kali karwane ke paise bhi nahin the (he did not have enough money even to whitewash his house). But within years of becoming the Punjab chief minister, he made so much money that he had to stash it in Swiss bank. In 2007, when the government changed in Punjab, the flow of money stopped all of a sudden,” said Kejriwal, daring Prime Minister Narendra Modi to get Amarinder’s bank accounts probed.

He said the Badal family took over from where Amarinder had left and pushed the state into bankruptcy. The Congress and the Akalis took turns to loot the people of Punjab, he alleged, claiming that this friendly match between the two parties would come to an end after the assembly elections.

“People are waiting for the imposition of election code. They are eagerly waiting to teach these parties a lesson. In ke paapon ka ghara bhar chuka hai (the pot of their sins is full to the brim),” he said.

Alleging Congress-SAD collusion, he said Amarinder never approached the central leadership for Punjab’s welfare but met party president Sonia Gandhi to save Akali minister Bikram Singh Majithia from a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe. “He had pleaded with Sonia to rescue his nephew (Majithia),” Kejriwal alleged, adding the Akalis paid back Amarinder by dropping corruption charges against him.

Kejriwal addressed three rallies in Chabbewal, Hoshiarpur and Adda Saran but disgruntled party leaders remained absent. Party’s NRI fund raising coordinator Virinder Parihar had put up banners outside the rally venues to call party chief’s attention towards corruption charges against some of his observers. He had planned to disrupt the rally in Chabbewal but was stopped from sneaking in.
