More Akali Leaders To Join Congress

CHANDIGARH – Three prominent Akali leaders from the Malwa region are expected to join the Congress in the coming days.

A senior Congress leader confirmed that Akali leader from Bucho Mandi Pritam Singh Kot Bahi would be joining the party in Delhi tomorrow. The Akali leader is expected to be fielded from Bucho Mandi, presently held by Congress MLA Amrik Singh Bhatti.

Sources confirmed that a sitting Congress MLA was making efforts to woo Varinder Singh Ghubaya, son of SAD’s Ferozpur MP Sher Singh Ghubaya, to gain Rai Sikh votes in Fazilka and Jalabad. Though the MP’s son denied the reports, sources said he could be offered Fazilka seat.

Another leader said the joining of the Akali leaders was again going to fuel “Akali-Congress contest” as Akali leaders were being made to join the Congress at the cost of loyal party leaders. The issue was previously raised by Rajya Sabha MPs Partap Singh Bajwa and Shamsher Singh Dullo.

Congress leaders also confirmed that efforts were on to woo Rajinder Kaur Bhagike, sitting MLA from Nihal Singh Wala, who had been denied ticked by the Akali Dal.
