MUKTSAR – Rajinder Singh Binda, who is on indefinite strike here outside the district administrative complex (DAC) against the alleged ‘goonda tax’ imposed by mining mafia, has got support from various unions.

He had yesterday joined by members of the Malwa Tractor Operators’ Union. Activists of Dehati Mazdoor Sabha having 5,000 members came to his support today.

Sources said they had planned to hold a huge gathering against the mining mafia tomorrow. They had put up a tent on the road leading to the DAC.

Binda had started his protest on Monday alleging that some SAD activists had forcibly charged Rs 1,800 against a “bogus” receipt while he was transporting sand owned by him from one site to another on Saturday.

Not even a single official from the district administration has visited him so far. A senior official said: “The market committee has been told to look into the matter.”

Binda said he would continue his fast till February 28 before deciding a further course of action.
