Police across the provincehave officially launched theirsummer CounterAttack campaignto stop drinking anddriving, and this year policeacross the Lower Mainland areconducting road side checksby bridges as well as BC’shighways.During the kick-off to the2013 Summer Counterattackcampaign, police in RCMPpolicedjurisdictions in theLower Mainland charged approximately100 drug and alcohol impaired drivers.”Those are bitter sweet results.
It’s definitelyfrustrating knowing that peoplestill drink or take drugs, and then getbehind the wheel. On the other hand myfellow police officers take pride in knowingwe may have prevented dozens ofpotential tragic long week end crashes,”says Corporal Robert Mc Donald ofLower Mainland Traffic Services.From June 28-July 1 the RCMP in theLower Mainland issued the followingimpaired driving related charges*:- 29 3-Day Immediate Road SideProhibitions- 1 7-Day Immediate Road SideProhibition- 1 30-Day Immediate Road SideProhibition- 38 90-Day Immediate Road SideProhibitions, of these 38 90-day prohibitions,6 were for refusing to provide asample- 8 Criminal Charges for ImpairedDriving- 9 12-hr prohibitions for new drivers- 5 24-hrs prohibitions- 9 Drug related 24-Hr suspensions”Summer Counterattack will be on allsummer long – not just on long weekends,”Cpl. Mc Donald reminds us.”That includes weekdays, early evenings -any time, any location.
