SURREY – The Surrey RCMP is issuing a warning that a sexual predator is on the loose after a 9-year-old girl was reportedly lured from her bedroom and sexually assaulted in a nearby park.

The mother initially reported her daughter had been abducted from the home near 99 Avenue and 128 Street.

On Wednesday at approximately 10:40pm, Surrey RCMP received a report from a mother who stated that her 9 year old daughter had been abducted from her bedroom in the family home where she was sleeping then sexually assaulted and left alone in a nearby yard.

Upon police arrival at the home in the 9900 block of 128 Street, investigators learned that the 9 year old girl was lured out her open bedroom window by an unknown male.  The male took the girl to a nearby park where it is alleged that she was sexually assaulted.  She was then taken to a nearby yard of a neighbourhood home and told by the suspect to remain there while the male departed.

Moments later the girl fled to her residence and sought help from her mother.  The girl was taken to the hospital where she will be cared for by medical professionals.

Surrey RCMP Special Victims Unit is conducting the investigation with the assistance of Lower Mainland District Forensic Identification Section and additional investigative units.  Police remained at the scene on Thursday and Friday, knocking on doors looking to identify anyone that may have seen something out of the ordinary overnight.

Police said at this point of the investigation this incident does not appear to have any links to the South Surrey sex assault on August 18th or the White Rock incident 11 days prior to that.  However, as it is still very early in this investigation police are not able to conclusively say there are no links.

Police are asking Surrey residence to ensure their windows are secured especially ground floor windows.  For safety tips on Home Security please visit the Surrey RCMP web site at www.surrey.rcmp.ca or click here.
