Manj Sues Brother Surj Over Use Of RDB’s Songs Performed By Surj And His Wife!

LONDON – The NRI bhangra band RDB (Rhythm, Dhol, Bass) — which originally was formed by three brothers, the late Kuljeet, Manjeet and Surjeet Ral — is currently undergoing a legal dispute.

The band that churned out hit numbers like Singh Is Kinng, TamanchePe Disco, Bullett Raja, SadiGali and RaftaRafta was under a lot of stress, when Kuly passed away. It split in a few months and both brothers, Manj and Surj decided to go their separate ways.

While Manj ceased all use of the RDB name and is currently operating as an independent artiste, his brother Surj has been holding concerts and performances along with his wife under the RDB banner and even lip-synching Manj’s songs.

Manj, who was in India recently for an event, admitted that he had filed a lawsuit against Surj in UK and India. He said, “I had to do this. Surj hasn’t composed or sung any new songs. He is using the old RDB songs, which are my compositions, and performing at events along with his wife. He is even using his wife Jese to sing my wife Nindy Kaur’s (who used to sing for the RDB band) songs at concerts and sometimes even fails to introduce her as his wife, making people think that the old members continue to be with the band.

The current RDB band is a fake one. When we had formed the band, Surj was always the DJ and the content was generated by Kuly paaji and me. While we functioned well that time, Surj was against any relationship building. Even when Kuly paaji was diagnosed with brain tumour, I shifted my family from Canada to UK and contributed to his treatment. Surj did not contribute towards that at all. I decided to keep quiet all this while, but now it has become unbearable. Not only this, he is also using brand name of RDB at all events and garnering fans under the banner.

When contacted, Surj said, “I have nothing to say about this. If you have anything to ask me about this, I do not wish to make any comments.”
