As if the soul stirring news about the brutal gang rape of the 23 years old medical student and the savage assault on her only protector at the time, her friend was not enough, we had yet to suffer the vulgar comments of a vulgar guru named, Asaram Bapu as well.

“Jinone galti ki.. sharabi they. Agar us kanya ne saraswati mantra liya hota, guru diksha li hoti.. toh boy friend ke saath picture dekh kar jis kisi bas mein ghusti nahin. Agar ghus bhi gayi.. toh 6 sharabi the.. Bhagwan ka naam leti aur ek ka haath pakadti “Tere ko toh mai maanti hoon.” (Source: The Hindu; January 7, 2013)

“Those, who made a mistake, (emphasis is mine) were drunk. Had she been initiated by a guru and had received Saraswati-mantra, she would not have (first of all) gone to see a movie with a boy friend, and (also) would not have entered a bus. However, if she had to, she should have chanted Lord’s name, grabbed the hand of one of the drunks (offenders) and accepted him.” (Translation into English is mine).

I am a staunch believer in God, but in the vulgarity of Asaram types. Even Rama and Krishna did not put up with the demonic behaviour of Ravana and Kansa. Durga killed Mahishasur on the spot. The behaviour of the alleged six rapists was demonic. And they should be punished to the full extent of the law. In my book guru Asaram is the seventh rapist. He raped the name and memory of the departed victim. He is no guru; has no weight of spirituality. He is laghu, small, petty, light weight; void of compassion (karuna).

The Former Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee once complimented Asaram in these words, “My brothers and sisters, absorbed in the bliss of devotion to Pujya Bapuji!  Pujya Bapuji is traversing the length and breadth of the country, inculcating good cultural traits in the minds of common people. This is such a work that has survived throughout our nation till this day and on the strength of that we can dream for the bright future of India by collecting strength and devotional force to materialise it. Pujya Bapuji, travelling from place to place in India, is sounding the clarion call for awakening. He is teaching about respect to all religions and how to discriminate between good and bad. We had committed the cardinal sin of almost forgetting our ancient heritage. Bapuji is opening our eyes to see our heritage once again by applying the collyrium of knowledge to our eyes.” I wonder what he would say after this fiasco.
