Surrey Cricket Pioneers Finally Received Permission To Play Cricket At 64th Avenue Field

SURREY – One of the most popular sports in South Asia is cricket.

When people immigrated to another part of the world, they feel not to furlong back-home sport affinity and attachment. Therefore, they make all possible exertion to play cricket wherever they are.

Despite all odds and obstacles, the Desai clan started cricket club in the city of Surrey in 2006. After the prolonged anticipation Inamul Desai succeeded into finally obtaining permission from Surrey city council to play cricket at 64 Avenue field in Sullivan Heights.

Salim Desai and Inamul Desai both cricketers were pioneers of the Star Cricket Club.

In the beginning they dedicated tremendous efforts to maintain sport’s spirit alive and interesting among Gujarati Community. Last couple of years they leaving no stone unturned to make cricket club most successful and popular.

The Star Cricket Club President Inamul Desai said ” When decade ago we started playing cricket there was only one team. Now club has grown up. There are five teams with 275 members. The club has been registered in the government record as a non-profit organization in Victoria.”

Recently there was glittering club function was arranged by the Gujarati community on the completion of ten years. In the presence of great amount of members excellent performance awarded to cricket payers for outstanding achievement in various tournament.

During closing ceremony Nazir Desai had thanked everyone. He had promised in the near future to bring grassroots level changes that would extend the membership in making  the Star Cricket Club as one of the most popular  in British Columbia Cricket League.
