LOS ANGELES – US spelling bee champion Ananya Vinay is no stranger to impromptu competitions. Her latest challenge was a face-off against Jimmy Kimmel on his Live show on Friday.
The host challenged the 12-year-old to participate in a “war of words”, which is his own version of a spelling bee championship. The competition was given a hilarious twist by Kimmel’s sidekick Guillermo, who pronounced the words in his quirky way to trip her up.

Ever since her win at the Scripps National Spelling Bee championship, Vinay has defended her title with gusto in every show, including the widely mocked interview by CNN anchor who made her spell President Trump’s cryptic word ‘covfefe’.
Vinay became the 13th consecutive Indian-American to win the US Scripps National Spelling Bee competition, bagging a cash prize of whooping $40,000.
