SURREY – Surrey RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a suspect in an assault against a security guard.
On June 25th at approximately 2:00 am, Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a robbery outside an apartment complex in the 10500 block of 132nd Street. Upon arrival, officers located an on-duty security guard who stated he was approached by a light skinned black male, who asked to use his flashlight to help him find his keys. The security guard handed over his flashlight to the suspect who then used the flashlight to assault and rob the security guard of his wallet and cell phone.
The security guard was taken to local area hospital by attending emergency health services with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The Surrey RCMP’s Robbery Unit is leading the investigation with help from the Forensic Identification Section who is examining evidence seized at scene. The Surrey RCMP Victim Services Unit has been in contact with the security guard and will be keeping in touch with him throughout the investigation.
The security guard was able to provide a good description of his attacker. With assistance from the RCMP’s Forensic Art Service Section, a composite drawing was produced.
“Thankfully the security guard will recover from his injuries, however, the Surrey RCMP needs the public’s help in identifying the assailant so we can hold him accountable for his actions,” says Cpl. Scotty Schumann.
