Ideals have a place in the world.  Third world politics come into play in River. Consequences aplenty surface in this Elevation Pictures release now surfacing at The International Village Cinemas.

Doctors have a moral code to uphold. All around good guy John Lake makes time playing doctor at a clinic in a remote region of Laos. Donald’s “other” son with the rather unusual name Rossif Sutherland takes charge as a Good Samaritan type emergency Florence Nightingale-like crusader. Field work burn out sees the wayward John take a break.

Holidays take many forms. Innocence gets lost in a hurry when the misguided American falls in with the wrong crowd and becomes involved with a sex crime. Things go from bad to worse in a hurry when the authorities bear down on this man on the run.

Tension runs deep in this 95 minute drama that is a thriller of sorts. Good acting from Sutherland parallels the spot on atmosphere of mysterious Asia. You can almost smell the humidity and muggy conditions of this effective chase movie. Some Unusual moments and an unexpected ending help make River an intriguing dark night outing.
