MUKTSAR – The Lambi police have booked four persons, including a former granthi of a gurdwara at Badal village, a self-styled godman and a couple for allegedly duping a resident of Badal village of Rs23 lakh. The accused had allegedly tricked the complainant by promising to turn the soil at his home into gold. Jabarjang Singh alleged that Balwinder Singh, a granthi at his village gurdwara, had brought “baba” Bhola Singh to his residence sometime ago who told him that his soil “had gold in it”.

“The baba took some soil with him and asked us to come to his dera at Indergarh village in Sangariya district of Rajasthan. He showed me two bricks that looked like gold. Then he came again and took away about 60 kg of soil. He demanded Rs6 lakh to turn it into gold. Later, he demanded more installments and took away a total of Rs23 lakh from me. Neither did he gave the promised gold, nor returned the money. A couple from Sikhwala village prodded me to give him the money,” Jabarjang told the police.

Jabarjang claimed that the accused had even admitted before the village panchayat that he would return the money, but did not. Those booked are Bhola Singh, Balwinder Singh, Jagsir Singh and his wife Ramandeep Kaur.
