2 ‘Tortured’ Children Reunited With Parents

ABOHAR – Two minor children who were rescued by NGO Nar Sewa Narayan Sewa from a sweets shop with the help of the local police on September 1 have been reunited with their parents in the presence of Additional Deputy Commissioner Charandev Singh Mann.

Child Security Department officials said today that the police had arrested Santosh Kumar of Deori segment in Giridih district of Jharkhand who had migrated to Dharam Nagari here sometime ago and had been preparing sweets in a house under extremely unhygienic environment. A case was registered against him under Sections 23, 24 and 26 of the Juvenile Act, 2000, and 344, 346 and 357 of the IPC on the complaint filed by Rajesh Kumar, Child Security officer, Fazilka.

Notably Rahul and Deepak, aged 10-14, were allegedly working as bonded labourers.

They were denied basic amenities and not permitted to walk freely. They had become sick and injuries inflicted on their bodies allegedly due to torture were getting deeper but no medical aid was provided.

Officials of Child Helpline and Child Care Centre, Ferozepur, had also visited the Civil Hospital here and asked for free treatment.
