LONDON – A fraud caseagainst an Indo-British womanaccused of stealing more than175,000 pounds from customersin the US was droppeddue to a paperwork mistake inBritain, BBC reportedWednesday.Satnam Kaur, 30, fromAberdeen and a former RoyalBank Of Scotland employee,was alleged to have taken cashfrom two accounts while workingas a customer advisor forthe bank, BBC reported.She was due to go on trial overthe allegations, but the case wasdropped because the documentsubmitted by the bank atAberdeen Sheriff Court failedto show that the case had beenofficially authorised byScotland’s top legal officer.The words “by authority of HerMajesty’s Advocate” were missing.According to the report, Kaurallegedly withdrew money aseuros and deposited a 120,000pounds cheque into her ownaccount. She was sacked fromthe job after the incident cameto light in April 2011.Depute fiscal Elaine Ward toldthe court that the prosecutorbelieved Kaur was going toplead guilty, and so had not fullyprepared for the trial.Prosecutors are legally bound tobring a criminal case against anaccused within 12 months. InKaur’s case time bar ran outOct 18. Ward sought extensionof the time to prepare a newindictment to serve on theaccused.Sheriff Graeme Buchananrefused to entertain the case,stating that the crown hadshown a “lack of focus anddirection”.
