WASHINGTON – Just amonth after beauty queen NinaDavuluri made history by becomingthe first Indian-AmericanMiss America, 18-year-old EmilyShah has won the Miss New JerseyUSA 2014 title.Shah, a resident of Edison,home to a large Indian-Americancommunity, was crowned Sundayat a glittering ceremony at the HiltonParsippani Hotel in Parsippani,a small hill township in thestate, according to local allvoices.com.She will represent New Jerseyat the Miss USA Pageant in 2014.The winner of the Miss USAPageant will represent the UnitedStates in the 2014 Miss Universecompetition.She was first runner-up at the2013 Miss New Jersey Teen USAPageant and first runner-up forMiss Teen World 2012.If Shah is crowned MissUSA, she will become the firstNew Jersey titleholder to wear theUS national crown.Daughter of Los AngelesbasedHollywood producerPrashant Shah, who has also beenassociated with several Bollywoodproduction houses, includingthose of Shah Rukh Khan andKaran Johar, Emily has playedsmall time roles in both Bollywoodand Hollywood films.She featured in Hollywoodmovies like “The Great NewWonderful” with NaseeruddinShah and Bollywood films suchas “Out of Control” alongsideRiteish Deshmukh, “Ta Ra RumPum” and “Jaaneman”.Emily plans to work in actionfilms and is currently workingas an assistant in the stunt teamof Hollywood movie “Run AllNight”, starring Liam Neeson andEd Harris.Being crowned Miss New JerseyUSA entitles Shah to receivescholarships, wardrobe, jewellery,cosmetics, talent representationand a variety of other prize packages,the news site said.“The focus for this programmeis to provide an opportunityfor young women to betterthemselves,” according to pageantorganisers. “The pageant encouragesthe contestants to gain selfawareness, self confidence, individualpride and greater socialawareness.”
