SURREY – Armaan DBG’s designer collection, which is a hot favourite among many Vancouverites, was showcased at her fall fashion extravaganza titled Timeless!

Her elaborate wedding lehangas, graceful sarees, dresses and fusion wear, are a thing of beauty. Countless giddy brides-to-be frequent her store where the ace designer let’s her creativity channel through her clothes. Needless to say, when DBG puts on a fashion show, we all watch. I watched it last year, as a journalist, but this year I was one of the models.

Now I am not going to wear you down with stories of long rehearsals, fittings and prep for the show. Let’s get to the meat of the matter. Timeless 2011 was a brilliant show.

The show started with a tribute to Maple Batalia, a beautiful young woman, full of promise, whom I met for a few seconds last year. In those seconds, it was easy to see how her beauty and humility touched so many lives.

First in line was a scene from Goa. Complete with midriff baring outfits with a cool bohemian vibe accompanied by a dance number true to Davi’s style. Very reminiscent of the hippy look from 70’s. It was followed by an array of sarees, lehangas, salwaar- kameez, fushion dresses, ethnic suits, bridal wear, kid’s stuff, you name it! My personal favourite was the jumpsuit that I modeled. So effortlessly cool and chic. If you know Davi like some of us do, you know she is a big fan of larger than life stage productions. This year was no exception. The crowd cheered on as acrobats performed somersaults suspended from the ceiling. There were fire performers in the entertainment mix as well.

Guests were served appetizers, dinner and drinks. One could sense the euphoria that comes after witnessing such excellent work as we danced the night away. Brittney Sharma, one of the lovely models added, “Every year at Davi’s show you can see her inspirations in her designs. She does an absolutely fantastic show and creates amazing pieces. Her dedication, passion, and love shows through her clothing that leave smiles on her clients.”

As an insider this year, I got a glimpse into the time and planning that goes in staging an event of this magnitude. After Davi was done with mammoth task of designing trendsetting clothes, it was time to display her beautiful work to the public. She had good help, in the form of some of my fellow models and volunteers, but I saw how a fashion show with all its glitz and glamour is really a labour of love. With over 1000 people in attendance, stunning models and even more amazing clothes, Armaan’s show was truly timeless. It covered various genres of fashion. From the 1970’s to contemporary, both in Indian and Fusion fashion. Armaan DBG has been doing this show for the last ten years. That alone speaks volumes about Davi’s dedication to her work and her creative spirit that have made her clothes and designs truly withstand the test of time. Devi says of her collection this year, “The designs are timeless pieces that don’t go out of style .You can wear them today and ten years from now.”

I encourage you all to participate in this event every year. If you missed the Surrey show on Nov 4, you still have the opportunity to check out her Victoria show on Nov 12 at Mary Winspear Centre! Tickets are $55 in advance or $60 at the door and are available through the Mary Winspear Centre, at Sunrise Day Spa at 3388 Douglas street and KT Boutique & Fabrics at 106 Burnside Rd West.
