BC truckers demanding safe highway conditions meet government officials

Truckers rally that was held in Vancouver, demanding safe conditions on BC highways had its first breakthrough. Representatives of West Coast Trucking Association (WCTA) had a meeting with Representatives of Ministry of Transportation of B.C. and with Representative of BC Road Builder and Heavy Construction Association on Saturday 29, Jan 2022

“We discussed lot of issues and concerns faced by truckers on daily basis.Snow Removal, De-icing, Potholes, Sunken Grades, 4chain Issue, Towing Issues, Auto Socks, Avalanche Control timing, No Parking issue, Entrance and Exit Ramp of Brake Checks and Pullouts, WashroomHygiene conditions, Washroom Lighting etc. were part of discussion,” informed Ajay Singh Toor, general secretary, WCTA.

“We have requested them to contact us before they can make any amendments or changes regarding the laws concerning truckers and trucking industry.Beingactual road user, we can provide feedback and inputs required which can be helpful in bringing out these amendments with more practical input from actual road users,” he said.

It was a very positive meeting and informative meeting for all and we are expecting some positive changes in near future.

West Coast Trucking Association had organized a rally for BC truckers on the streets of Vancouver to express their concerns regarding hardships they face on highways.

Toor while highlighting the demands of the truckers said that truckers have been facing extremely difficult situation on the highways due to which many of our brothers have lots their lives. “Our demands are very simple. We want clean highways, we want snow removal on highways to prevent the accidents. We also want clean washrooms.”
