BATALA – The Batala police today booked former BJP president of Qadian block, Kamal Jyoti, on the charge of theft.

Police sources claimed that six months ago, Dev Datt, a resident of Amritsar, had lodged a complaint that Kamal Jyoti had allegedly stolen 120 bundles of plastic pipes used for electricity wiring and 80 bundles of another type of pipe from his factory situated on the Buttar road.

An inquiry was ordered into the allegations and the report revealed that Jyoti was indeed at fault. The probe was conducted by the Qadian SHO, following which a case under Sections 454, 427 and 380 of the IPC was filed against Jyoti. The BJP leader is absconding.

Jyoti said he had taken the factory on rent in 2005. “I have submitted the rent deed, rent receipts and other documents regarding electricity and telephone connections to the Qadian police. All these indicate that I was the owner of the factory. I have been framed by a prominent SAD leader of the area,” he said.
