NAYA NANGAL – While the truck operators continue to block urea supply from the National Fertiliser Limited unit (NFL) for the third day, NFL General Manager Aman has accused local MLA and Industries Minister Madan Mohan Mittal of pressuring him to accept the protesters’ demands.

In a press conference, Aman alleged Mittal, who was present at a recent meeting of truckers and management, threatened to not let them run the factory if the truckers weren’t paid freight charges. He further alleged the district administration had not provided requisite assistance to the NFL management to resume normalcy of operations. Mittal denied the allegations.

The Truck Operators’ Society, Nangal, started its agitation on January 19, alleging the NFL management refused to hire their trucks. It alleged as per a contract, the management was bound to transport 22 per cent of the total production through road at a tariff of Rs 7.25 per tonne per km. The NFL management has denied the allegations. According to the contract, the management was free to opt for the most economical mode of transportation, they claimed.

On February 8, the NFL management booked a rake to dispatch the urea under the Essential Commodity Act and refused to hire any truck. The union then again started its protest and blocked the railway track.
