LONDON – A British Sikh manhas become only the secondmale contestant to win a populartelevision game show, getting2,50,000 pounds (around$416,000) in the process.Roop Singh, 54, from Leedsbecame only the second malecontestant to take such a largesum on Channel 4 game show’Deal Or No Deal’ hosted bypopular anchor Noel Edmonds,and the seventh overall since theprogramme was first broadcasteight years ago.Roop Singh went all the way tothe end despite having just fivepounds, 100 pounds, 500pounds, 1,000 pounds and250,000 pounds in his last fiveboxes, the channel said in amedia release Wednesday.In the game, there would be 22identical boxes containing randomlyassigned sums of moneyinside ranging from one poundto 250,000 pounds assigned tocontestants to choose one fromthem.As the boxes are openedover a number of rounds, thebanker (an unseen person whooffers deals to the contestants)makes offers of real money togain possession of their box.Contestants can either ‘deal’ totake the money, or play to theend, settling on the amount intheir box.Roop Singh was joined in theprogramme, which is also calledDream Factory, by his wife andone of his daughters.”The night before my game, mydaughter quite innocently said’Dad, I want confetti’,” Roopsaid after winning the game.”When I was offered 46,000pounds, all I could think of was’Dad, I want confetti’ and I said’No Deal’.
