In an era dominated by social media there’s a growing realization that traditional wisdom and experiences, often held by seniors, risk being overshadowed. Recognizing this widening generational gap, Vivek Canada, a Vancouver-based non-profit organization, has has launched a one-of-its-kind program to foster intergenerational connections and community cohesion.
Named “Dawn to Dusk,” this innovative program aims to bring together South Asian youth and seniors, creating a platform for mutual learning and support. “Traditionally, elders share their life experiences with younger generations and pass along teachings through various social activities. We hope the program will bridge the generational gap between seniors and youth as they participate in fun and educational activities together,” said Dr. Harmesh Sidher, founder of Vivek Canada.
The program features a series of events and workshops that will take place from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025.
The program is open to Youth (between the ages of 15-25) and seniors (55+) who will meet once a month to build a sense of community and provide seniors the ability to share their culture and knowledge with others.
Participants will meet once a month from Spring 2024 to Spring 2025 and only need to register once. Registration for senior participants is now closed, however registration for youth participants is still open.

“Founded in 2006 by a group of friends, mostly expats, Vivek Educational Foundation of Canada (Vivek Canada) has been dedicated to the cause of alleviating poverty and promoting rural development projects in India with an integrated and grass-roots approach. The foundation has been working to improve access to education and opportunities for youth in remote areas of India’s U.P. state – one of the areas with the worst rates of literacy in the country. We go where nobody else goes,” said Dr. Sidher.
The organization now also aims to promote the well-being of the local community and illuminate the path from dawn till dusk.
