13th Annual International Mother Language Day

❉ Discussions: efforts to have Punjabi language education in

local educational institutions. Mr. Garry Thind from the Surrey

school board will be present.

❉ It is a matter of great pride for all of us that a large number

of Punjabis are part of Canada’s federal government. Is this

going to have any effect on the development and preservation

of Punjabi language in Canada? Surrey Centre MP Randip Sarai

will be present to discuss this.

❉ Young Punjabi learners will share poetry, songs and ideas.

❉ PLEA cordially invites everyone to come and be part of the

annual celebration of Punjabi language.

Hindi Competition

It is an open  Hindi competition and all are encouraged to participate in it.  It will have three categories:

1.  Age group- 7to 10 years can take part. Maximum time 3 minutes.

2. Age  group- 11 to 15  years. Maximum time 4 minutes.

3. Age group-  16 to 20 years. Maximum time 5 minutes.

Participants  have to tell story, recite poem or give talk in Hindi orally.

Prizes will be given to  three competitors who will be declared by the team of judges – First, Second and Third but all the participants will receive certificate for their participation .

This Hindi competition has been  jointly organized by the Hindi Literary Society of Canada and Laxmi Narayan Mandir of Surrey.

The competition will be held on Sunday,  February 14, 2016 at 8321-140 St., Shanti Niketan (Laxmi Narayn Temple) in Surrey. The event will start at 11.00AM.

Caste, Beef, And Hindu Nationalist Violence In India

South Asian Network for Secularism and Democracy (SANSAD) in partnership with Radical Desi and Chetna Association are holding a public forum on Caste, Beef, and Hindu nationalist violence in India

Screening: “Caste on the Menu Card”, a film by students of Tata Institute of Social Sciences was banned from screening by the Govt. of India at a festival on October 31, 2015. The film focuses on the consumption of beef in Mumbai to explore the relation between caste, occupation, diet, and discrimination.

Jai Birdi will speak on the current situation of Dalits in India. Background: There have been a number of attacks on Muslims in India in recent months, including the lynching by a Hindu mob of Mohammad Akhlaq in Dadri, UP last September on the rumor that he had consumed beef. Several states have banned cow slaughter and many have been targets of violence on suspicion of trading in or consuming beef.
