The tragic news of stabbing of a Punjabi origin woman ata Surrey residence has one more time raised serious concerns over domestic violence in South Asian households. Surrey community has come together to raise money for the funeral of Harpreet Kaur Gill who was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband.

Harpreet Kaur Gill was stabbed on December 7 at her residence located at 12700-block of 66 Avenue, Surrey. The police found Harpreet in medical distress, resulting from multiple stab wounds. Despite the best efforts of first responders, Harpreet succumbed to her injuries after being transported to a local hospital.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to support Harpreet’s family with costs associated with her funeral. The fundraiser organized by Surrey’s Baljinder Kaur mentions that Harpreet leaves behind three young children all under the age of ten.

According to the police, 40-year old Navinder Gill of Surrey, man known to Harpreet, was arrested by IHIT investigators with the support of the Surrey RCMP. A charge of second-degree murder was laid against Gill.

IHIT later confirmed that the victim and the suspect were married. Harpreet’s parents landed from India to attend the last rites of their daughter. They appeared in various media interviews talking about the unhappy married of their daughter and asking for justice for their daughter.

The police have not yet revealed the motive behind stabbing.  A charge of second-degree murder was laid against Navinder Gill. The investigation is now before the courts.

The GoFundMe page mentions that Harpreet’s parents and her brother reside in India. They are devastated and finding it incredibly difficult to bear the loss of their beautiful daughter and sister. They are worried about the future of Harpreet’s children and getting her justice.

“They are a middle class family with little savings and are trying desperately to attend her funeral and perform the last rites. No parent should have to see their child leave this world in such a brutal manner. But it would be even more devastating and traumatic if they could not attend,” the fundraiser page mentions.

The family needs the support to pay for their beloved daughters funeral costs and or any legal advice they seek when they arrive.Harpreet’s parents are also concerned about the future of their grandchildren and want to seek legal advice regarding their custody and future.

Any donation at this point, large or small, will help grant these helpless parents the chance to see their daughter one last time. On a side note, they also lost their youngest son a short while ago. One can only imagine what it’s like losing another child, the page mentions.
