Consulate General of India in Vancouver Marks World Hindi Day with Cultural Extravaganza

The Consulate General of India in Vancouver celebrated World Hindi Day on January 10 with grandeur at the Fraserview Banquet Hall, bringing together diverse organizations dedicated to promoting the Hindi language and culture in the Lower Mainland.

RJ Nutan Thakur and Harish Masand were the masters of ceremony.

World Hindi Day is observed on January 10 to commemorate the first World Hindi Conference held in January 1975 at Nagpur, Maharashtra.  In 2006, the first Vishwa Hindi Diwas was observed by the then-Indian Prime Minister of the country – Dr. Manmohan Singh. Since then, January 10 has been observed as World Hindi Day everywhere.

Ten organizations promoting the Hindi language and culture in Vancouver showcased the rich cultural heritage. The event was hosted by Nutan Thakur and Harish Masand.

The event aimed to strengthen the connection of the Indian diaspora with their roots while highlighting the vibrancy and significance of the Hindi language on the global stage.

Consul General Manish, delivering a speech during the celebration, emphasized the importance of World Hindi Day as an initiative to connect the Indian diaspora with their cultural heritage. He articulated, “The Hindi language is a reflection of India’s rich heritage and culture,” using various Hindi idioms to add a lighthearted touch and demonstrate the expressive power of the language.

Ajay Garg, President and Founder of Bhartiya Kala Evam Sahitya Parishad, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Indian culture, shared insights into the significance of celebrating World Hindi Day on January 10.

The cultural showcase featured contributions from various organizations, including the India Cultural Association led by Neeraj Kumar, Ganesh Hindi School, Mudra Dance School, BKSP, Manasvini, and the Hindi Literary Society. Through captivating performances encompassing dance, poetry, songs, and insightful discussions, the richness of the Hindi language was brought to life.

The event also featured the release of two notable books.

The event also featured the release of two notable books. One of them is a compelling collection of poetry and prose authored by Acharya Dwivedi, the founder of the Hindi Literary Society. The second book, titled “Manasvini,” comes from the pen of Shikha Porwal.

The event not only provided a platform for cultural expression but successfully echoed the Consulate’s commitment to promoting and preserving India’s cultural tapestry in the heart of Vancouver.
