Kapurthala, Tarn Taran, Fazilka worst hit districts in Punjab
CHANDIGARH – Recent floods in various parts of the state damaged crops on over 90,000 acres of land. The most affected districts were Kapurthala, Tarn Taran and Fazilka. Besides, damage to crops was also reported from some pockets of Nakodar-Shahkot area.
The Deputy Commissioners concerned have submitted the preliminary reports with regard to the damage to crops and houses to the government authorities concerned. At most of the places, paddy crop has been hit hard. However, there was no major loss to lives, though a boy died in Kapurthala district some days ago.
In Kapurthala district, most of the damage was caused to crops in Sultanpur Lodhi subdivision, though water has started receding in most of the areas. People, who had shifted to high places owing to flooding of their settlements, have started returning to their homes. Crops on about 40,000 acres were damaged in this district. Some ‘kutcha’ houses were also damaged.
