Last Saturday, Muriel ArnasonLibrary and the Townshipof Langley celebratedtheir 10th annual Diwali, theFestival of Lights. Over 500people participated in thiscolourful event and enjoyedHenna, crafts, face painting,Punjabi Folk Dance Bhangra,turban wrapping demonstrations,entering draws, andfood in a festive atmosphere.Township of Langley MayorJack Froese, Councillor GrantWard, Councillor Kim Richter,Councillor Charlie Fox,Councillor Steve Ferguson,CouncillorBob Long,CouncillorBev Dornanas well as Townshipof Langley manager Bev Herman,Judi the Manners Lady,Bob Gabriel, Mnager, ISSofBC,and Muriel Arnason’sdaughter Petrina Arnasonwere among those who enjoyedthe celebrations. MayorJack Froese, Councillor GrantWard, and Judi conveyed theirwishes to the community fora happy Diwali. Seven yearold Ishaan Singh Rangi entertainedthe audience withhis lively Bhangra. A shortpresentation on history andthe importance of the turbanin Sikhism by JashanpreetSingh Randhawa was very wellreceived. Sarwan Singh Randhawaand Baljit Singh Kundandid many turban tying demonstrations.There were manyother entertaining activities asall ages could choose to havetheir hands decorated withMehndi, or henna. Childrenenjoyed face-painting, creatingcolourful lights, and did avariety of crafts.
