ABBOTSFORD – To make fair use of summer vacations and keep children active, an amusing and great learning Youth Camp was arranged by Dasmesh Canadian Sikh Society (Regd) Canada and Vishav Gurmat Parchar Sabha (Regd) Punjab at Gurdwara Baba Banda Singh Bahadar Sikh Society, Abbotsford, BC.

The camp was voluntarily arranged by Principal Gurdev Singh Dhaliwal and other dignitaries of the community. More than 100 boys and girls along with their parents took benefit of the camp which was run for five days.

An eminent Sikh scholar and drug therapist Dr Raghbir Singh Bains addressed the joint session of campers and their parents in a professional and very positive setting. Dr Bains said that the idea behind the camp was to teach young generation about their socio-religious and ethno-cultural values to enrich their lives. He made a wonderful demonstration through multimedia technology about Sikh history, heritage, universal Sikh concepts and sacrifices made by the great martyrs against human suppression to uphold human liberty, equality and fraternity. Dr Bains created awareness on the menace of drugs and their solutions to save the youth from fatal diseases, drug trading, violence, bullying and HIV-AIDS etc. It was an amazing and interactive session in which both campers and their parents took active part during question and answer hour.

An eminent Radio-TV anchor Prof Gurvinder Singh Dhaliwal talked about challenges which are being faced by teens in today’s life. He motivated the campers to respect their parental values and to make multicultural Canada a peaceful and prosperous country in the world.

The campers were carrying placards-posters in their hands and pledged to stay away from drugs and other social evils. They promised to carry this message to the doors of community also. Dr Raghbir Singh Bains was honoured with a plaque to recognize his distinguished services to the global society. The camp was a wonderful experience and successfully managed with active support of volunteers consisting of both boys and girls.
