The Surrey Eagles junior bantam team, which includes a number of Indo-Canadian players, will be playing in the provincial championships for the first time in 18 years (today) on Saturday, Nov. 29 against Victoria at the provincials in Langley. While the Grey Cup unfolds in Vancouver this weekend with much anticipation, there’s a group of 13-year-old Surrey football players who will be playing out their own milestone. One of the teammates parents, Nisha Kalsi, said this weekend is a big deal for her son. “Some kids are from low-income families and coaches at times pay out of their own pocket to cover costs for those who can’t afford to,” Kalsi told 24 Hours. “I, as a mom and a wife of a coach, would never have thought that football can be so positive and bring joy to so many lives,” she said.
