TORONTO – Federal NDP Leader Thomas Mulcair, who was guest speaker at the National Ethnic Press and Media Council of Canada last weekend, highlighted his policy of tax cuts for small businesses and measures for manufacturers to create good-paying, full time jobs for middle class Canadians.

“I believe the most important economic asset Canada has is the middle class,” said Mulcair. “Our proposals will help small businesses create middle class jobs and help weather the storm in the months and years ahead.”

Mulcair said that an NDP government will cut the Small Business tax rate from 11 per cent to 9 per cent.

“The Small Business tax cut will provide immediate and permanent help for Canada’s hard working small business people who are the backbone of local communities and the creators of 80% of all new jobs in this country,” explained Mulcair.

Mulcair spoke to the Council on the first day of a tour of the Toronto region to promote his job creation policy to small businesses. The tour includes stops at various independent businesses in Toronto including grocery stores, restaurants, coffee shops, a bakery and a hockey store.

“Lowering small business taxes is a first in a series of important steps needed to create jobs and immediately give a break to the middle class,” concluded Mulcair.
