AMRITSAR – Former AkalTakht Jathedar Giani PuranSingh, his convicted sex-molesterson Ajai Singh who wasjailed in Canada for sexuallyassaulting a 13-year-old girl inAbbotsford before beingdeported to India, the Jathedar’snephew Ajmer Singh and fiveothers, including his three gunmen,were charged with thrashinga person over a land disputein the colony of 1984 massacreof Sikhs victims.Puran Singh is in the dock aftera joint action committee of the1984 massacre of-Sikhs victimsand human right organizationsblamed him for assaulting thehead of 1984 Sikh ShaheedParivar Welfare Society, HarpalSingh, on Monday.Harpal along with victims andright activists had been on aprotest since Sunday demandingto take back nearly four acres ofland allegedly in illegal possessionof Puran Singh.President of Human RightsInsaf Sangharsh Committee,Darshan Singh, who is on ahunger strike in support of thedemand, told TOI that onMonday morning, Puran Singhalong with his son, a relative anda gunman, arrived at the protestsite near Gurdwara SangranaSahib and allegedly intimidatedthem.”Puran Singh’s relatives andgunmen beat Harpal and threatenedothers,” he alleged. Harpalwas admitted to the hospitalwhere his condition is reportedlystable.On the other hand, Puran Singhsaid that he owned five kanaland eight marlas (2,700 sq yards)of land and the “so called rightactivists” wanted to grab hisproperty.He said that the remaining landbelonged to ShiromaniGurdwara ParbandhakCommittee (SGPC).He admitted that he had goneto the site on Monday morningbut denied assaulting anyone.”One of them hit a motorcyclein my car and manhandled us,”he alleged.
