On January 28th, 2024, President Gyani Narinder Singh of Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib in Surrey, British Columbia, presented generous donations to several charitable organizations during a heartfelt ceremony. This event marked a significant milestone in the ongoing commitment of the Sikh community to support those in need.

The funds, totaling $15,000 each, were raised through the 8th Fundraise Dinner held in December 2023, a memorable event held in memory of Char Sahibzadee. These donations were presented to three remarkable organizations: Make A Wish Society, Ronald McDonald House B.C. & Yukon, and the Delta School District for their Kids Meal Program.

City of Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke was in attendance to personally acknowledge and appreciate the outstanding contributions made by Gurdwara Dukh Nivaran Sahib and the Guru Nanak Food Bank.

During her speech, Mayor Locke announced that the City of Surrey is actively working towards providing a permanent space for Guru Nanak Food Bank, which has been serving the community since its inception in July 2020. Currently, the food bank operates from a modest 1000 sq. ft unit near Gurdwara Sahib.

Delta School Board Trustee Nimmi Dola, along with officials from the School District and representatives from the recipient charities, were also present to receive the donations. In addition to the $15,000 contributions to Make A Wish Society, Ronald McDonald House B.C. & Yukon, President Gyani Narinder Singh Ji and Mayor Brenda Locke presented $2,600 to the Delta School District.

The event was attended by prominent members of the Guru Nanak Food Bank, including Secretary Neeraj Walia, as well as esteemed members of the Gurdwara Society.

The atmosphere was filled with gratitude, unity, and a strong sense of community as these charitable donations will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of many.
