Guru Nanak Food Bank is opening another branch in Kelowna city shortly to cater to needs of Kelowna and other neighboring cities as well. Guru Nanak Food Bank provides blankets, bed sheets, permanent grocery items etc free of cost to people struck by natural calamities, floods, storms and even the international students.

Jay Minhas, director of Guru Nanak Food Bank, Surrey, informed that after the opening of the first Guru Nanak Food Bank in Gurdwara DukhNiwaran Sahib (Sikh Temple) on 152 Street Surrey BC, for which popular community activist Anup Singh Loodu provided free space, they opened another branch in Abbotsford as well in the space provided free by Surinder Singh Manjh Furniture Abbotsford.

Jay Minhas whileresponding to my question about this wonderful job, said, “I am not alone, I am nothing, I am one of them, the credit goes to my several dedicated colleagues like Giani Narinder Singh Chairman, Gurdwara Dukh NiwaranSahib, Neeraj Walia, Anup Singh Loodu, Bill Sandhu Sanjha TV, Inderjit Singh Dhillon, Pawan Aujhla Tera Tera Helping Hands and others.”

Also the credit goes to the Sikh Sangat (Sikh Community) and all Gurdwaras (Sikh Temples), who like to rush like storm to take care of the people in distress whenever such need arises. This dedication of serving the needy is quite in accordance with thegreat humanitarian tradition initiated by Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikh religion. It is highly amazing that with the support of donors so far$ 2.1 Million worth of much needed grocery and other things have been given away free to the deserving people.

The Sikh faith says, “The stories about the great deeds of forefathers when narrated to children make them worthy children.” Jatinder Minhas seems to have rightly followed the footsteps of his much respectedfather Lambardar Bhagwant Singh Minhas who always believed inserving the people.

Great regards to Jay Minhas for arranging several Annual Free Eye Camps in Adampur, establishing Sant Bhag Singh College and Sant Baba Bhag Singh University Damunda,Adampur in India. He has also done very commendable job in establishing Saragarhi Sports Stadium in the memory of two internationally honored great martyrs S. Jeevan Singh (Minhas) and S. Gurmukh Singh (Minhas) ofhisvillage, Damunda. It is said, “Sound mind in a sound body.” And according to Sikh thought, “God lives in people, people are God.”Therefore, all these volunteers who are serving all needy people through Guru Nanak Food Bank or others means are really serving God and God being omnipresent and omniscient knows everything and those who serve people are automatically blessed by God.
