Chandigarh: On the day the state carried its first ever dope tests on candidates during recruitment, the government failed to release the number of candidates who failed the test.

The move led to speculation that the results “did not suit” the political establishment. News reporters in the field were able to give the test results declared during the day. Officials conducting the tests told the reporters a readymade kit gave the result within seconds.

The police and the Home Department first told the media that the figures would be released in the evening. Later, they said the figures would be released after a meeting of the Deputy CM Sukhbir Badal with IPS Sahota, ADGP, who is heading the recruitment process.

However, even after the meeting, the government did not release the figures. Sahota said that figures could not be compiled. Nearly 8,000 candidates took the physical test for the police recruitment on the first day, he said.

All male candidates were subjected to the dope test. As per reports from from six districts, only 105 candidates tested positive. These are Moga 19, Ropar 5, Muktsar 19, Jalandhar 33, Patiala 12, and Bathinda 17.
