SURREY – NDP candidate for Surrey-Tynehead Raj Hundal joined thousands of revelers out enjoying Dussehra mela last Thursday in Surrey, which brought out large groups of Sikhs and Hindus due to the Hindu temple and Sikh Gurdwara being side by side at the edge of Bear Creek park.

. Dussehra mela, a very popular festival celebrated throughout India, was open to the entire community and featured live entertainment. It was organized by the Vedic Hindu Cultural Society of British Columbia.

Hundal said “I am delighted to be here this afternoon and feel privileged to celebrate this cultural and religious festival. It is not surprising given the wealth of ethnic diversity right here in Surrey that we continue to lead by example by celebrating Dussehra Mela.

“Through the epic story of how the victory of virtue prevails over evil, we are given the guidance for good and moral conduct in our lives.  The celebration of the victory of Lord Rama over the ten headed King Ravan, is a truly commemorative day for people all over the world and I am honoured to have been asked to attend such a prestigious event, said Raj Hundal.

“This event provides those who believe and preach Hindu cultural and religious values with a vehicle to preserve and promote the culture and an opportunity to create a legacy for future generations. It also continues to strengthen the fabric of our ever growing community, said Hundal.
